The park also has four (4) camper cabins located in the family campground. These camping cabins sleep six (6) in two rooms with a double bed and two sets of bunkbeds. Each cabin has electrical receptacles and a heating and air-conditioning unit. Outside cabin amenities include a picnic table, charcoal grill and a fire ring. Drinking water and restrooms with hot showers are located nearby.
No smoking is allowed in any of the cabins. Centennial Cabin is ADA accessible. Animals are not allowed in the cabins or cabin area with the exception of service animals. Park gate is locked daily at posted closing hours. Vehicle access after gate closing or before 7 am is restricted, except in an emergency.

My husband & I thought state parks were free to go in. Why is Grandfather Mountain charging 20.00 a person & 18.00 over 60 ? There should be no charges to enter the park. We understand upkeep & charging for camping ,boating & the like.
Hi Ms. Mcbride,
Grandfather Mountain attraction is privately owned and charges those fees. Grandfather Mountain State Park does not charge any.
Here is the website for the Grandfather Mountain attraction: https://grandfather.com/about-grandfather-mountain/what-is-grandfather-mountain/
Here is the website for Grandfather Mountain State Park, which is located in the “backcountry” of Grandfather Mountain: https://www.ncparks.gov/grandfather-mountain-state-park
Please email me at Katie.Hall@ncparks.gov if you have any further questions or concerns.
I’ve been told that after tomorrow Aug. 28, the NC State Parks was going to start charging a fee to enter? I was told that as a senior citizen I could buy a $10 discounted pass, but after tomorrow it would be $80/yr…is this true? If so how come I have not seen or heard anything about this in the news?
Dear Ms. Strader, I believe you’re confusing us with National Parks. Here is the information on their website: https://www.nps.gov/planyourvisit/senior-pass-changes.htm
The good news is North Carolina State Parks remain FREE to all (with the seasonal exception of State Recreation Areas). So support our parks and get outside and enjoy them!
I had reservations for 9-27-18 at Carolina Beach State Park…which is now closed due to storm and will likely remain closed longer……Can I get a refund on my reservation??
Please email me at Katie.hall@ncparks.gov. You will automatically be refunded if the park is still closed. I believe they hope to open on 9-24, though.
